This Sunday 14th October the club ride is in the Cheviots. It was originally planned for July but a rainy weekend stopped that. The forcast is better for this weekend.

The route uses tracks that stand up to the weather pretty well. It is also in quite a compact area so there are a couple of escape routes which make the ride about 16 to 18 miles instead of 28.

Starting at Alwinton the route heads up through Kidland Forest on fire roads to gain the first height of the day before a cracking descent to the Usway Burn near Hazely Law. After a tad more fire road the route descends down the Border County Ride on firm grassy double track with some natural berms near the bottom. There then follows a steady climb (with a really steep bit that’s not so steady) up to Fairhaugh so we can then enjoy the singletrack that follows the Usway Burn to Batailshiel Haugh and then the road at Shilmoor. The route then follows the only significant road sections of the day (3 miles) up the Coquet Valley before going onto the fire/shale roads up past Rowhope and Trowes and Fairhaugh again so we can finish with a cracking descent down Clennell Street back to Alwinton.

Start: Alwinton green on the right as you enter the village, 9:45 riding for 10:00
Distance: 28 mile (roughly and approximately thereabouts)
Climbing/descending: 3500ft (1066m)
Grade: Red
Bring your own food and drink as no stops planned.
Let me know by 6pm on Saturday if you’re coming.
Cheers
Dave S
